Afghanistan Red Gold Company held a training seminar on new methods of production and packaging of saffron in order to improve the quality of production and standardization of packaging, for three days.
Fifth Saffron Flower festival
The festival has been held for five years by the National Union of Saffron Workers in cooperation with the Herat Department of Agriculture, in which agricultural companies represented their achievements and products. Afghanistan Red Gold Saffron Company participated in this festival and appreciated by participators as always.
Saffron is the world’s most expensive spice in terms of weight. The spice is actually the dried stigma (tiny threadlike strands) of the “Crocus sativus Linnaeus”. Each stigma is very small, and tens of thousands of individual strands go into a single ounce of the spice; since the stigmas are hand-picked from the individual flowers, saffron high cost becomes more understandable….
The aroma, flavor and color come out much better when it is grounded to a powder and soaked into warm water for 10 minutes before being added to the foods, cookies, beverages, milk, ice-cream, rice, and chicken at last stage of cooking….

Saffron is very sensitive to light and moisture. Store it in a container away from sunlight with airtight cap. If stored properly, it will last for 4 years.
Saffron absorbs other flavors and odors very easily. If you choose to transfer the saffron to a new container, make sure that the container is very clean and odor-free before using….
Saffron is a multiyear plant that will remain 6-7 years in your land. The main investment in this period is saffron corm (that is used for propagation) and labor costs. You will harvest saffron each year on October and the propagated corms will be collected after 6-7 years which have good income for farmer.
